The Chamber has spawned a number of successful programs over the past few years.  It was instrumental in working with the local arts community to promote the successful monthly “Art Up” art walk in PhinneyWood.  Venue participation grew 50% from 2011 to 2012.  We’ve also worked with the City and local businesses to produce three annual Summer Streets celebrations on Greenwood Avenue.  The Greenwood Seafair Parade continues to be a wonderful Seattle tradition each and every year that draws one of the neighborhoods largest crowds.  Our neighborhood was included in a grant from the Office of Economic Development that generated a PhinneyWood feature on a site called www.OnlyInSeattle.org.  And, just last summer, we launched a new website of our own in support of promoting our local businesses, DoPhinneywood.com.

Regardless of these efforts, it becomes increasingly challenging for small business owners to volunteer their time, as a result, Chamber Board membership has waned over the past couple of years. Fortunately, with some effort by a select few, the annual meeting Feb 3^rd reversed that trend when 23 members raised their hand to get involved with the board!  Starting immediately, this group accepted the responsibility of reshaping what the Greenwood-Phinney Chamber of Commerce looks like.  They are looking for opportunities to connect with the folks at the PNA (Phinney Neighborhood Association) in an effort to join forces with their business membership program.

Elected to executive positions were Mike Veitenhans (Home Inspection & Gumshoe Guy) as President, Jamie Clausen (Lawyer at Phinney Estate Law) as Vice-President, Jeff Cornejo (Phinney Starbucks Manager) as Treasurer and Liesl Mordhorst (Loan Officer at Legacy Group) was re-elected as Secretary.

The 31st annual PNA Winter Festival and Crafts Fair is Dec 3 and 4 from 10 – 5 pm both days. It features 115 crafts vendors, continuous live entertainment on two stages, a huge bake sale, a quilt raffle and lunch items.

Admission is $2 for PNA members, $4 for the general public. Children 12 and under are free. Bring a can of food for the Greenwood Food Bank.

Beginning in October 2011, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) will reconstruct N/NW 85th St from 15th Ave NW to I-5 and repave Greenwood Ave N from N 85th St to N 73rd St. These roadways, which carry over 40,000 vehicles per day, have deteriorated over time and need major repairs.

While the primary purpose of these projects is to repair and replace the roadway, SDOT will also complete other improvements to sidewalks, curb ramps, transit and stormwater. Please visit the project website to learn more.
